The way you hold your flowers matters

This may sound weird, but the way you hold your flowers for your wedding photos actually matters! It’s worth practicing this in front of the mirror and looking at the differences to see what you like best before your wedding day. It will make a big difference in your photos. Here are a couple things to think about.

Hold them facing out

If you hold your flowers tilted outward towards the camera, you’re going to get more photos of your flowers straight on - of the top of the bouquet. The top of the bouquet is usually the most abundant, beautiful part, so face it outward and show it off! You’ll end up with really pretty photos. Alternately, if you hold your bouquet straight up and down, you see more of their stems. I caught myself holding my bouquet up and down at my own wedding - and quickly adjusted myself on the fly. You can see the before and after in the photos below!

Hold them low

Similar to the first point, holding your flowers up too high can be a mistake for photos. The top of your dress/outfit near the neckline is often one of the more ornate parts (depending, of course, on what you picked!). The area from the waist up is a prime spot for embellishments like beading, lace, sequins, and so forth. If you hold your bouquet too high, you’re going to cover up all those details! Make an effort to stand up straight and bend your forearms downward. See the difference in my photos below!

Your wedding shouldn’t be all about obsessing over the photographs. But think of it like this: you’re investing a lot in professional photography, florals, and outfits. Being mindful of how you position yourself will help ensure you capture those memories beautifully for years to come. Taking a little time to practice posing beforehand can help you feel more comfortable when the day arrives.
